Kuldhara: The ghost village of Jaisalmer

Kuldhara: The ghost village of Jaisalmer

The ghost village of Kuldhara is situated in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, India. According to folklore, Kuldhara was an ancient village of Paliwal Brahmins who migrated from the Pali district of Rajasthan. They built 84 villages around Kuldhara but had to abandon the village overnight attributed to various causes ranging from persecution by Salim Singh, a powerful minister of Jaisalmer state, to drought, earthquake, etc. The village remained abandoned since the early 19th century.
